Datapipe Tops List as October's Most Reliable Cloud Hosting Company

By Erin Harrison, Executive Editor, Cloud Computing

Downtime can cost organizations significant amounts of money, and even more so during a major event, such as Hurricane Sandy, which unleashed its wrath on the East Coast a little less than two weeks ago. Despite having a major datacenter in the heart of New Jersey –Jersey City – the managed services provider Datapipe (News - Alert) has been listed as the most reliable hosting company in October by Netcraft, which measures and makes available the response times of around 40 leading hosting providers’ sites.

Datapipe is situated close to areas where analysts had predicted a 100 percent probability of a storm surge higher than six feet. Datapipe founder and CEO, Robb Allen, told Netcraft that the effects of the storm were also felt as far inland as Somerset, where Datapipe’s New Jersey datacenters are based.

Datapipe also said that when the company’s grid became unstable on Monday due to the storm, they switched to generators for their datacenter power supply.

The company was determined to withstand Sandy by truly going the extra mile. “Even though their diesel reservoir was large enough to last at least four days, Datapipe also stationed additional fuel trucks on site in case roads became impassable,” according to Netcraft.

Datapipe runs its U.S. data centers on entirely renewable energy, and is recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Green Power Partner. Datapipe’s other U.S. datacenters are located in San Jose and North Virginia, and the company boasts further reliable datacenters around the world.

In related news, the company also increased its ranking to No. 8 on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) Top 20 Tech & Telecom list of the largest green power users, TMCnet reported.

According to the company, this ranking reflects Datapipe’s undeterred commitment to safeguard the environment by improving its existing partnership with EPA’s Green Power Partnership.

The company is making use of more than 74 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green power every year. This green power has the ability to meet 100 percent of the organization’s electricity use, company officials said.
